We woke yesterday morning with the bed shuddering… no, Kotoni was in the loungeroom reading having woken up super early. At first I thought something was under the bed but Kotoni ran in with a cuppa shouting “get up Sonia we are having an earthquake!”
The shaking lasted about 2-3 minutes. It was a very weird feeling but no window rattles, toppling dishes or anything dramatic so we stayed very calm. There was a followup tremor about 10.00am at college… but no more since.
Earthquake early warning centre report said (after the fact mind you) that it was 7.6 and 208 kms underground south of Fiji Islands with no tsunami threats. Great we reckon – as the island of Tongatapu is so flat there would be nowhere to run anyway.
Blog updates of past week coming soon.
I’m not sure I can ‘like’ this comment Sonia! ? :-\ Pleased that the earth moved for you…pity Kotoni was preoccupied getting the cuppa 😉

Wow, Sonia, Having experienced the Newcastle one so many years ago, I know the feeling. but 2 to 3 minutes is amazingly long, I reckon. (Almost time to get used to it and adjust your gait.) That bit about Tongatapu reminds me to pack my water wings when we visit (Date not determined or negotiated yet, so don’t panic but please continue the fanfare rehearsals)
We’ve all said it before but what a life experience, in so many ways. Love your blogs. Love to you both, Vaughan
