Cendol is a popular sweet dish in Myanmar. This afternoon iced treat is made of sticky rice (or rice flour) palm sugar, crushed coconut (or coconut milk) and sesame seeds.

A roving cendol seller walks along the street carrying the ingredients on her head announcing she has this favourite for sale.

If you would like cendol she’ll stop and mix the ingredients with shaved ice. It is served in a bag to customers who crouch on the side of the road at this little pop up cafe. The cost is 200-300 MMK (about AUS 20- 30 cents).

My colleagues bought me some to try – its…super sweet and shall I say… interesting!!??
