by Gordon…
Like most stately and superb edifices the Secretariat in Yangon (previous ‘home’ base of the Myanmar Parliament) had fallen into a state of disrepair through weather, historical circumstances and a lack of funds.
It is currently being returned to its former Victorian architectural grandeur. The original girders were made in Scotland, the roof tiles imported from India and Switzerland and the huge clocks came from Northern England. So many of these authentic and original building ‘jigsaw pieces’ wait patiently to be put into place.
This grand building has a plethora of stories to spark historical interest and it is wonderful to see it being lovingly restored.
The building is also the location of the assassination of General Aung San and his colleagues. The room where this occurred is being returned to its original state.
Gosh – from Scotland and the north of England – …… beautiful building now but will be gorgeous when fully restored
