For years I enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the Boxing Day sales performance at the massive Pacific Fair Shopping, on Australia’s beautiful Gold Coast with 80,000 ‘friends’.
Observing post Christmas shoppers unload vouchers and return unwanted gifts in an enormous shopping precinct built with the warm summer weather in mind is (was) an annual soirée I looked forward to. Ok
Myanmar Plaza in Yangon is my location for Boxing Day 2019. Not quite as crowded as Pacific Fair however, the Christmas tree has a aura about it that creates a festive mood and shop attendants donned the obligatory red and white Santa apparel with panache.
Mariah Carey and Wham Christmas songs are being played on repeat, as they will be 94.6 % of the world at this time, and the snow (people) are melting in the 27 degrees temp.
The shops offer alternative items here but change is coming fast and like most shopping malls throughout the world things appear to becoming homologized.
Where will we be next year? Watch this space.
