International volunteers day is a chance to celebrate the diverse work done by individuals throughout the world. This year I attended a gathering in Yangon hosted by Australian Volunteers International (AVI) and caught up with familiar faces as well as meeting new people now located in various parts of Myanmar.
Although the word international was used, for obvious reasons, the conversations touched on how individuals also contributed to their local community via Relay for Life, Boy Scout car wash days, fire fighters etc and how engaging in volunteering work at a domestic level can often transpose oneself onto the global stage.

Perhaps you could take part in next year’s celebrations?
