Today I doubled my friend Anita (visiting from London) on the back of our ebike for a local temple tour.
At one of the most famous and stunning pagodas is Ananda.
While weaving through the crowds of local pilgrims we encountered one of the many festivals Myanmar people love to celebrate.
After a stroll around the beautiful grounds and the building we meandered back to the Ebike via the labyrinth of market stalls selling everything from baskets to blankets.
We bought a pair of shoes each ($5 – damn the expense!).
It was a sensory experience on many levels.
We also sampled a yummy warm savoury eggy ricey pancakey treat filled with chickpeas, sprouts, a green herb, tomato and a little chilli. Many of these festival foods are only available during this time and are unique to the area.
Earlier in the day we’d been out to see the balloons floating overhead just after dawn. Always a magical sight.
So it’s been another usual Sunday in the land of 3000+ temples!
This was such a fabulous day. I loved it all – and frolicking on the back of an e-bike was SO much fun………guess the next blog will tell that we went back and bought more $5 shoes 🙂
